Liv Antonecchia

Art class was always a favorite in school. Growing up I was lucky enough to pursue fine arts on an accelerated level in high school and at a nearby University in New York State. I attended the Fine Arts School at Virginia Commonwealth University and graduated with a Bachelor in Fine Arts with a concentration in ceramics and glass working. For several years following graduation, I worked in studios and craft galleries along the East Coast. When my family and I decided to relocate on the coast of South Carolina, I finally had the opportunity to set up my own studio and fulfill my dream of becoming a ceramic artist.

Living along the coast has been a significant influence in my work. I strive to incorporate the textures and palette of the landscape into each piece whether it is magnolia leaves outside my window, the nearby sand, sea or marsh grass.

I love the warmth that handmade pottery evokes. Holding a handmade mug and feeling the impression’s left by the artist hands is a true joy. My love of food and cooking dictates my forms following the intended function. I envision each piece with a purpose whether that is a bounty of salad in a large bowl, cookies on a tray or folded napkins in a basket. I believe handmade pottery should excite the senses and be truly functional for everyday living.
